Will I lose my Golden Visa if I sell my property?

Possibly. The title deed is linked to your visa. If your other UAE property is still worth at least AED 2 million, a Dubai Land Department valuation can show that. If not, the visa is cancelled before the sale goes through. Talk to the DLD before you list.

Is my Golden Visa cancelled if I lose my job?

No. The Golden Visa is not sponsored by your employer, so losing your job does not affect your residence status.

Can Golden Visa holders stay outside the UAE for more than six months?

Yes. The UAE government portal lists staying outside the UAE beyond the usual six-month limit as a Golden Visa benefit. Tax residency is a separate question with its own rules.

Can I sponsor my son over 25 on a Golden Visa?

Sources disagree. 2022 reporting on the reforms said children could be sponsored regardless of age, while a Gulf News guide updated in October 2025 says sons up to 25. Confirm with the ICP or GDRFA before relying on it.

UAE Golden Visa Problems: 7 Common Issues and How to Fix Them

Rejected despite meeting the criteria? Selling your property, lost your job, or unsure who you can sponsor? The seven Golden Visa problems residents raise most, and what actually fixes each one.

The UAE Golden Visa is simple on paper: meet a threshold, apply, get 10 years of residency. In practice, the same handful of problems come up again and again in reader questions to UAE newspapers and in adviser reports. Here are the seven we see most often, what's actually behind each one, and how to fix it. Every rule below is checked against a dated official or press source, listed at the end.

1. "My application was rejected, and I met the criteria"

This is the most common complaint, and it's usually about paperwork, not eligibility. Khaleej Times collected 13 rejection reasons from immigration officials and consultants in January 2025. Most come down to documents that don't agree with each other:

Your visa job title doesn't match your role. If your contract says "Director" but your visa designation says something junior, automated checks flag it.
Your salary isn't clearly visible. Salary that doesn't show up plainly on your bank statement, or doesn't match your contract, gets questioned.
Your degree isn't attested. Professional routes need a legalised degree at the time you apply, not afterwards.
Old fines or an overstay on your record, or missing health insurance for you and your family.

The fix: before you apply, make your documents tell one story. Ask your employer to update your job title with MOHRE if it's out of date, make sure salary arrives as salary, get your degree attested (see our attestation guide), and clear any outstanding fines.

2. "A consultant promised a faster or lifetime Golden Visa"

In July 2025, viral reports claimed some nationalities could get a lifetime Golden Visa for a one-off fee of AED 100,000 through a consultancy. On 8 July 2025, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) publicly denied it. There is no lifetime Golden Visa for sale, and applications go only through official government channels.

The fix: apply through the ICP website or app, GDRFA in Dubai, or the Dubai Land Department for property cases. A licensed PRO can help you prepare documents, but nobody can buy you a shortcut. If an offer sounds too good, check with the ICP's 24/7 line on 600 522222 before you pay anything.

3. "I want to sell my property. Will I lose my visa?"

Possibly, so plan the sale before you list it. Your title deed is linked to your visa. Gulf News reported that if you still own other property worth at least AED 2 million, you can show that with a Dubai Land Department valuation certificate and keep the visa. If you don't, the sale can go through only after the visa is cancelled.

4. "I lost my job. Is my Golden Visa cancelled?"

No. Unlike an employment visa, the Golden Visa isn't sponsored by your employer. A partner at Baker McKenzie told Khaleej Times that a Golden Visa holder's residence status is "entirely unaffected" by losing a job. Changing jobs is easier too: Golden Visa holders are exempt from the rules that can suspend a new work permit (Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022).

The fix: no emergency. Take the time to find the right next role. If you qualified on salary, keep your records in order, since your circumstances will matter again when you renew.

5. "Can I sponsor my adult son, and my parents?"

Here the sources genuinely disagree, which is why so many people are confused:

Spouse and children: yes, on the same long-term basis.
Unmarried daughters: can be sponsored at any age.
Sons over 25: The National's April 2022 report on the visa reforms said a Golden Visa holder can sponsor children "regardless of their age", but Gulf News' benefits guide, updated in October 2025, says sons up to 25 (with no limit for sons with disabilities).
Domestic workers: any number.
Parents: we couldn't find an official page that sets out Golden Visa-specific terms for parents.

The fix: if your plan depends on sponsoring a son over 25 or your parents, confirm it with the ICP or GDRFA in writing before you apply. Don't rely on a consultant's blog, including this one.

6. "Can I stay outside the UAE for more than six months?"

Yes. Most UAE residence visas lapse if you're abroad for more than six months at a stretch. The Golden Visa is an exception: the UAE government's official portal, updated in July 2026, lists staying outside the UAE beyond six months as one of its benefits.

7. "What happens to my family if something happens to me?"

It's an uncomfortable question, but it comes up a lot. Gulf News reported in July 2025 that if the Golden Visa holder dies, sponsored family members may remain in the UAE until their visas expire. Their residency doesn't end the same day.
